Presence; A Mellow But Gratifying Film for Horror Fans

If you're looking for a movie that will keep you just at the edge of your seat and leave you rippling with emotions of a varied form, watch this movie immediately. Here's the official preview of the supernatural horror film by Steven Soderbergh who's directed Contagion and Ocean's 12 if you liked those.

Go watch it please this review isn't that important you need to see for yourself 🤌🏽🥺

Giveaway In the Title

So the title gives the whole plot away (win for the ADHD impatient group). We already know that the movie will involve a presence of some sort, and now need to know more about the entity. Is it peaceful? Yes, well, sometimes and only to certain people... Is it a familiar? Maybe, it sort of looks like it. It would be nice if it was... Is there closure? Honestly these are simple questions that shouldn't be so hard to answer.

.. but they are.

The presence is predominantly located in the main characters' bedroom closet, a girl named Chloe (Callina Liang) who's just experienced the double tragedy of losing two of her closest friends in mysterious homicide situations. The spirit seems to be gentle with her, and a medium called in by the family's patriarch (Chris Sullivan) doesn't do much to let us know whether the spirit means good or bad, or anything in between (and you know there can be a lot if you've watched these kinds of movies for a minute; remember Ghost?)

What's Happening 😭

The family is a regular dysfunctional one with rifts growing between the dad and his wife, his son and daughter etc. The mom is a boy-mom to the hilt so we don't need to look far to see where the problem stems from. Again, familiar turf with family complications and sibling warfare. Unnecessarily sad and true; seek therapy, people...

The fact that they have to deal with an additional presence with all their domestic nonsense creates a bearable irritation that makes it easier to play with the viewer's emotions, so viewer discretion is advised for emotional guerrilla warfare I guess 😆 You'll be forced to think about what you'd do in such a situation because sometimes it gets so familiar and regular that the entity in the picture is the only anomaly, and therefore one that you can allow your mind to attempt to deal with in addition to *gestures broadly* life...

The presence itself seems a bit all over the place, and it's until the very end that we see a small detail that makes it easy to piece everything together by working backwards. It's worth the breath you're going to hold, I promise. The tidy cast doesn't leave you wanting because each delivers their role with a sincere intensity. This makes it easy to follow this movie and enjoy it even if you have a fried squishydrive that just won't do what it needs to.

Lucy Liu from Charlie's Angels, Chris Sullivan from Stranger Things, Eddy Madday from Amanda the Jedi Show, and Callina Liang from Foundation are all impeccable in their depiction of a regular family.

It's such easy dopamine, guys, go for it! 😃 And also, if you want a spoiler review, just say ng'we 🫰🏽

I'll spoil it rotten.
